Dulwich College Suzhou Appointment of New Head of Senior School
Dulwich College Suzhou is very pleased to announce the appointment of the new Head of Senior School, Mr Mark Jones.
Mark is originally from England, graduating from the University of Bristol with a Law degree and the University of Birmingham with a masters’ degree in linguistics. He is currently studying for his PhD in Educational Leadership with UCL, and he will graduate this year. Mark has worked in international schools in China for the past 15 years, including in Chengdu, Chongqing, Dalian, and Suzhou. Over his leadership career, he has been a Head of English and Modern Languages, Head of Professional Development, Deputy Principal, and, most recently, Director of Teaching and Learning. Mark has been a member of the Dulwich family for seven years, working in the Dulwich International High School before joining DCSZ in 2018.
Mark believes strongly in the individualization of education to achieve the greatest level of student satisfaction and academic excellence. He said, “all students need to be known and cared for as an individual”. It is essential that all students in the school feel that they are recognized as individuals and their learning is appropriate for them, not just fitting the majority of the students in the group. Mark says that by placing the individual first in our understanding of a senior school education, we can ensure that every student has an educational experience and that DCSZ becomes a centre for academic excellence.
The development of the school community is very important is Mark’s vision of a senior school education. He said that school is much more than just a place of learning for our students; it is a community and a focus for their lives. This is even more important in an international school in which many students are away from their home countries, families, and friends. Therefore, he stresses that it is essential that the school becomes the heart of the local community.
Dulwich College Suzhou is excited to have Mark onboard. He will start his new role with immediate effect.
