International University Fair
Friday 13 October, 2:30~5:30 pm
The Suzhou University Fair will be taking place at 2:30 PM on Friday 13 October at Dulwich College Suzhou! Representatives from more than 100 universities all over the world will be at present. It’s a great opportunity for parents and students to speak directly to universities and find the best university for you.
We also have some informative panel discussions which will help you understand key concepts in applying for universities.
Let's listen to our experts to gain some insights on choosing the right university.
Can you explain to us about the upcoming University Fair and describe to us about it?
There are an additional 100 universities participating in this fair. This presents a wonderful opportunity for our students and parents to connect with admission officers and counsellors. In addition, we will be hosting panel discussions on various topics. I strongly encourage our students to be courageous and ask any questions they may have, whether pertaining to scholarships, the application process, admission requirements, and more. During the fair, you will not only gather the necessary information for your university applications but also gain experience in asking questions.
Furthermore, I suggest that students conduct preliminary research and prepare their questions in advance. Then, with confidence, they should bravely voice their inquiries during the event.
Would you please give a snapshot of the services your department does to students in terms of university applications, starting from the one-on-one session to parent workshops and other activities and engagements?
In terms of university applications, we assist students in personalizing their needs and provide support in choosing courses, writing recommendation letters, and more. We understand that during the university application process, students may experience pressure and mental challenges, and we encourage them to reach out to any member of our team for support. We maintain meeting minutes to ensure a thorough understanding of each student's circumstances.
Furthermore, we also provide guidance and education to parents. We acknowledge that parents often receive an overwhelming amount of information regarding university applications from external sources. We recognize their concerns for their children's future, and we aim to help them filter and identify the most crucial information through our educational sessions.
Also, this year we have a new and experienced counsellor joining our team: Ms Daisy Wang. Let's hear her perspective:
What are your suggestions, especially regarding student well-being while applying to university?
For students, most of the pressure stems from the unknown. They are unsure about which major to pursue and how to approach the university application process. In addition to these concerns, students also have schoolwork and various activities to complete. All these unknowns contribute to their feelings of nervousness and stress.
Firstly, I suggest that students reflect on their preferences and interests. By turning the unknown into the known, they can determine what they like and don't like. For example, if they dislike math, they can explore the reasons behind their dislike. It could be that they dislike the way it is typically taught, but appreciate the underlying logic. By understanding these factors, they can use them as criteria for selecting their major. The goal is to narrow down their preferences and discover their true passions and interests.
Even if students are currently unsure about their desired major, they can still use this method to explore their preferences. For instance, if they have a strong affinity for logic, they can participate in university fairs and seek recommendations or advice from admission counselors regarding related fields of study.
Secondly, it is important not to worry excessively about the future. Instead, focus on the present and engage in activities that you enjoy. You can achieve your goals by using methods that feel most effective and comfortable to you. While many people emphasize the importance of time management, it may not be suitable for everyone. Don't feel restricted by it. Treat the university application process as a course and concentrate on what you can control in the present. By taking things step by step, you will alleviate unnecessary concerns.
Lastly, it is crucial to identify your core abilities, as they are what set you apart. These are the unique qualities that define who you are, and no one can take them away from you.
