- Dancing Through Creativity and Collaboration
- by Ms Merrill Woodruff, Head of Primary Junior School Music
This week, we had the privilege of welcoming the University of Auckland's Dance Studies Team to our Primary Junior School. Students enjoyed a performance from the visiting dancers, followed by dynamic workshops filled with creativity and collaboration.
This week, we had the privilege of welcoming the University of Auckland's Dance Studies Team to our Primary Junior School. Students enjoyed a performance from the visiting dancers, followed by dynamic workshops filled with creativity and collaboration.
Throughout the sessions, students were encouraged to create their own movements, explore dance as a form of expression, and collaborate with their classmates as they crafted their own choreography. With a central theme of water, students developed dances that represented its three forms: solid, liquid, and gas, all while making connections to the Sustainable Development Goals and considering how dance can spark conversations about important topics.
On Friday morning, some of our parents joined in the workshops, bravely pushing beyond their fears to explore the world of dance.
These workshops have brought so much fun, expression, and connectivity to our community. A huge thank you to The University of Auckland - we look forward to dancing our way through the rest of the year!
