Fanie Van Der Merwe
Business Studies Teacher, Head of Individuals and Societies
Having grown up in South Africa, Fanie graduated with a B.Com degree from the University of Pretoria, before moving to London, where he spent five years working in the banking industry. After completing his PGCE through the University of Roehampton, he went on to graduate with a BA (History) from the University of South Africa. Over the course of the past nineteen years, Fanie has taught Business Studies and History at schools in London, Guangzhou and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he was also the head of the Business & Economics department. During his holidays, Fanie likes nothing better than to visit new countries; sometimes by himself, but most often with his wife, Michelle, and his son, Ben, by his side. He has visited fifty-one countries in the process, he is currently applying the finishing touches to a travel journal that will be published in the near future. Fanie is often accused of being obsessed with cricket – an accusation he finds impossible to disagree with.
