Carys Madgwick
DUCKS Classroom Teacher, Assistant Head of Primary School
Carys grew up as a third culture child after her parents immigrated to Singapore from the United Kingdom in the eighties. She spent nine years in Singapore and has since live in Brunei and New Zealand. Her 'home' country is New Zealand as this is where she spent the previous 20 years before moving to China. She is a mother of two children who are Junior School and Senior School students at Dulwich College Suzhou. She graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Education specialised in Teaching. Carys began her teaching career in Early Years in the city of Whangarei, Northland New Zealand where she gained valuable experience in play-based learning and understanding of young children's development. Carys taught in a Year 1/2 composite class for a number of years as part of a collaborative teaching team. She gained a wealth of experience in inquiry-based teaching and learning, as well as team teaching practices. She began her journey within school leadership during this time undertaking and carrying out many lead roles with a focus on student learning behaviours and literacy. In 2019 Carys joined the Dulwich College Suzhou team as a classroom teacher. Shortly after this she took on the role of Inquiry Learning Lead in DUCKS and has shared her passion and evidence-based experience with DUCKS teachers. In her spare time, Carys likes to live an active lifestyle enjoying tennis, weight training and 'running' on her elliptical not to mention enjoying quality time with her loved ones and all the world has to offer.
