Primary AEN for DUCKS and Junior School
Helen is from the UK and studied at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Sheffield University. On graduating, she went to work in the Further Education sector lecturing on business, leisure and tourism courses, which also involved organising work experience programmes and leading residential trips at home and abroad. After some years she followed her sporting background and joined the Federation of Disability Sports in Yorkshire working with people with physical disabilities to establish and organise sports clubs and events. Helen finally fulfilled her dream of working abroad by joining Voluntary Service Overseas and moving to Malawi as a sports development officer with the Malawi National Sports Council.
After spending time in schools in Malawi, Helen decided on a change of career and moved into primary teaching. She gained her teaching qualification through the well-regarded Graduate Teachers Training Programme in the UK and worked in an infant school in Nottingham, as a teacher in Year 2. Malawi, however, called her back and she returned to teach there in Years 3 and 4 before moving again to a large British school in Kuwait teaching in Reception and Year 2.
In her spare time, Helen enjoys travelling in her camper van, music, dancing and pilates and would love to learn to teach yoga and Zumba to children. She and her very active and sporty daughter, who has had a great 5 years in Suzhou so far, are looking forward to their best year yet.
