DUCKS Classroom Teacher
Jessica grew up in Liverpool and later moved to study at the University of Leeds, where she received a BA (Hons) degree in Popular and World Music. She then went on to gain a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from the University of East Anglia. Upon graduating, Jessica taught at a complex needs school which caters to students with a large range of learning disabilities. She was also curriculum co-ordinator for the Performing Arts department, teaching music across the school for 7- to 16-year-olds, whilst also overseeing the drama and dance curriculum. As a teacher and musician, Jessica enjoys linking together musical learning with learning across the curriculum as a whole to further develop students’ acquisition of language and communication, as well as their general development and well-being.
Jessica is extremely passionate about inclusion and strives to create a positive and welcoming classroom environment. She is trained in Signalong and uses it to help students develop their communication skills. It is Jessica’s goal to provide strategies and provisions to support the needs and abilities of all students.
In her spare time Jessica enjoys keeping active, particularly through Yoga and Pilates. She also enjoys photography, music, dance and theatre. Jessica is looking forward to exploring China and experiencing some Chinese opera.
