Dulwich College Suzhou Appointment of New Deputy Head of Senior School

Dulwich College Suzhou is excited to announce the appointment of the new Deputy Head (Academic) of Senior School, Mr Damian Gray.

Damian is a dual Australian / British National having been born in the UK but raised in Australia. He completed his teaching degree in Humanities and Physical Education at Edith Cowan University and worked in Western Australia before leaving in 2000 to travel and teach internationally. With over 20 years of experience in the international education sector in Qatar, India, Shanghai China (at Dulwich College Shanghai) and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, he has been a Head of Humanities, Head of PE, Head of Year, Deputy Head and Head of Secondary during that time and taught a range of Humanities subjects.

Teaching is a passion for Damian. He believes that those who love teaching embody the attitude necessary to be great teachers. He believes strongly in the importance of developing students academically to achieve their full potential through the provision of excellent classroom experiences that allow them to be fully engaged in their learning. This is done through the provision of high quality curriculum, teaching and learning, assessment, reporting and data tracking. He places just as much importance on the social and emotional development of students believing that pastoral care is a critical part of any school in the development of its students. He is also a big believer in the role that extra-curricular programmes have in maximising student learning. He truly recognises that learning cannot be holistic unless it extends past the classroom, and the personal and developmental impact of extra-curricular experiences is at least equal to that of academics. He regards extra-curricular programmes as a fantastic opportunity for students and staff to build positive relationships that transfer back to the classroom and that become powerful tools in helping students reach their full potential.

Damian is passionate about all sport and loves to play and coach. He also loves reading about his subject area, Humanities and enjoys travelling to new places.

Damian has been Head of Faculty for Science and Humanities at DCSZ since September 2020 and takes up his new role as Deputy Head (Academic) of Senior School after Chinese New Year 2021.
